My Part – Part II

“You, my brothers and sisters, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the flesh; rather, serve one another humbly in love” Galatians 5:18 (NIV).

When I chose to say, “I do,” and chose to become a mother, I chose the job of setting an example for others and I get to choose what type of example that’s going to be.  Rest assured, I’ll be setting an example of one kind or another. I want to be a good example. How can I expect my children to learn perseverance if I’m not willing to see a chore through from beginning to end? How can I teach them patience or kindness or self control if I don’t regularly practice it myself?

Just as my husband gives me more grace than I deserve regarding household chores, our Heavenly Father pours grace on us on a daily basis as well. All He is asks is that we do our part to receive the gift of His Son. He is waiting to welcome us into His family, by admitting we’re sinners, believing Jesus died on the cross for our sins and admitting He’s the only way we can enter eternity with God. Then we need to confess we want Jesus to come into our life to change us for the better.

What about you? I didn’t realize when I waved goodbye to my husband one morning it would remind me of the precious gift God has waiting for all who do their part to receive it. So it is with a thankful heart of the reminder of where I’m spending eternity that I better choose wisely and do my part, which might just begin with getting the house in order. Maybe I’ll surprise my husband tonight with something special to let him know his sacrifice is appreciated too.
