What Do You Taste?

Another one of our senses that COVID effected was the sense of taste. You don’t realize how much you appreciate it, and enjoy it, until it’s taken from you. Some people regained their sense of taste within a few weeks, and others either lost it for months or when it came back, everything tasted rancid, metallic, or like garbage.

Can you imagine sucking on a lemon and instead of the sweet and sour citrusy taste you expect, it tastes like metal, or garbage?

I love the taste of coffee, and baked goods. But I also love the sweet taste of strawberries, blackberries, bananas, watermelon, and peaches – especially in the summer. Salads taste amazing as well with fruit on top and some crunchy nuts added in. There’s nothing like grilled chicken and corn on the cob in the summer as well. I find it so easy to eat healthy in the summertime with all the beautiful and delicious fresh foods available.

Water, or lemonade, is a great way to quench one’s thirst in the summer, and hot chocolate or coffee in the fall, winter, and spring. There are so many amazing flavors of coffee now a days: blueberry and other fruity coffee flavors for the summertime, white chocolate raspberry, almond, or coconut for the fall, winter, and early spring.

When fall comes, it’s time for apple and pumpkin everything: coffee, pie, bread, or other amazing desserts.

Each holiday is celebrated with its own traditional foods. My mom makes a great plum dumpling in the summer, stuffed cabbage in the fall, and homemade “sticky buns” at Christmas. My mother-in-law makes an amazing meatloaf, the best homemade macaroni and cheese, and our favorite deviled eggs.

My sister loves cooking for the holidays and makes scrumptious foods as well. I’m not the best in the cooking department, but I do really well with baking: homemade muffins, cinnamon rolls, “family secret recipe” brownies, and chocolate chip cookies.

And who doesn’t like to try some refreshing ice cream on a hot summer’s day?

What are some of your favorite tastes? Will you join me in praying for those who have lost their ability to taste (and/or smell) due to COVID? That God, Jehovah Rapha (our Healer) will deliver them from the COVID virus and allow their sense of smell and taste to return to normal?

May we never take our sense of taste (and smell) for granted.
