When they told her about Southern hospitality, no one mentioned human trafficking.
The move to Bay Town, Mississippi was supposed to be a fresh start for single-mom Melanie and her daughter, Lacy. The quiet Southern town offers a nice relief after the frenetic-paced life of Los Angeles, but something sinister lurks beneath the surface.
Her bridal business struggles to take off, and instead of turning to the Lord, Melanie makes a desperate plea for help–from her ex-husband. Lacey and a friend are attacked, and while Lacey is hospitalized, her friend goes missing—a victim of human trafficking out of New Orleans.
With her ex-husband showing true signs of repentance, the pastor she’d begun to fall for taking a step back, and her daughter’s friend lost to the animals who stole her, Melanie goes on a desperate, dangerous mission to rescue the girl and get their lives back.
And she’ll do it with or without the Lord’s help.
How can Melanie find the girls and rescue them without getting caught herself? Why can’t she trust the Lord to keep them all safe, and which man in her life is the right one–if either?
Read this heart-gripping, pulse-racing novel and see how the Lord’s hand is on us, even when He seems so very far away.
BOOK EXCERPT
Desmond Brooks, the pastor of Bay Town Community Church, removed his sunglasses. He glanced around. “Good morning. I came to talk to you about a wedding.” His dark eyes sparkled.
Melanie’s smile faded, and her heart raced. Everyone knew he was a widower and the most eligible bachelor in town, and she was certain she wasn’t a candidate for anything in his future. Still, she sighed.
“Congratulations. When’s your big day?”
“What?” Pastor Brooks drew his shoulders back. “No. Not me. Someone called about getting married in our church.” His laugh was friendly.
“Oh. I see.” A silly grin rose on her lips, and Melanie chuckled. She babbled on about church venues not being trendy anymore and prattled that other venues were much more in vogue these days. She crossed her arms and squeezed.
“Our church gets a few calls now and then asking about booking it for a wedding, so I guess I could use a coordinator.”
“Oh, well, you’ve come to the right place then. Have a seat.” Melanie waved at a Louis XIV reproduction. The chair covered in a classic gold-striped fabric appeared too elegant to sit in. Dollar signs rose in her mind—another investment piece.

Cheri, this is an amazing book! She covers a sensitive topic in a tactful way but it really makes you think about what God may be nudging you to do-even if praying for these girls. This book has characters you fall in love with, feel their emotions so clearly, and the nail biting parts that just don’t let you put it down! I absolutely couldn’t stop reading-even through tears several times and about yelling at them in other spots. I certainly recommend this book but be prepared for it to take your emotions for a ride!
